Why New Year's Resolutions Fail...

Every New Year start the same way, after the fireworks, far too many glasses of wine and attacking the cheese board, the hangover is soon to follow and a feeling of utter guilt after last nights antics and consuming your body weight in turkey and chocolate over the festive period.

This is followed by the new year’s resolution which 9 times out of 10 begins with the “new year new me” approach to the upcoming year……. The problem is we are creatures of habit so transforming our lives overnight simply isn’t going to happen.

So what’s the key to keeping your new year’s resolution? Well the simple answer is to make small achievable goals throughout the year that are easily achievable and can be sustained. This can be applied to anything such as quitting smoking or losing weight and getting in shape. If we have small achievable goals we can reach, then anything is possible! Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day so anything in life worth attaining doesn’t come easy.

Let’s take weight loss as an example. Instead of living off cabbage and filtered water for the foreseeable future try cutting out bad habits, such as snacking late at night. Try replacing fizzy high sugar drinks with healthier homemade fruit smoothies or water. After 2-3 weeks of this you can then start preparing your own healthy meals to take to work. After another 2-3 weeks of this you’ve already changed a fair amount of your old bad habits and are well on your way to a healthier fitter you! A healthy weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week is much healthier and more sustainable than losing large amounts of weight all in one go so don’t get disheartened.

So don’t let this year’s new year’s resolution go to waste like years gone by.

Create small achievable goals you can reach throughout the year and you’ll be amazed what you can actually achieve!
